Antoinette served our country for 10 years in the US Navy. Twenty-one years ago, she moved into the house that she lives in now. She lives by herself, and as she has gotten older, she’s struggled to keep her house maintained the way she felt she needed to.

Her glass shower door was falling apart, and it scared her to bathe, because she worried the glass door might break and injure her while she was showering. To make matters worse, her side yard was not fenced in, and had become a meeting spot for groups of people in the neighborhood that she did not know. With the help of Rebuilding Together DC Alexandria, not only were both of these concerns addressed and fixed, but so were additional problems that were discovered during a home assessment.

The team fixed an issue with her storm door, weatherized her doors and windows, and installed grab bars in both of her bathroom showers, reducing the risk of a fall. Through the improvements made by Rebuilding Together, Antoinette was more at ease knowing she is safer and more comfortable in her home. Thanks to all of our supporters for helping us make Antoinette’s home safer and healthier!
