Use mulch, leaves, or compost in the fall to insulate soil and boost nutrients. Add biochar or sulfur for soil health, and clear weeds before winter. Plant cover crops before frost to enrich soil and block spring weeds.

Top 10 tips to weather-proof your home this autumn, according to the experts

As fierce winds and heavy rain start to make an unwelcome appearance, here are the ways you can prepare your home for the season ahead.  With blustery conditions and (very) frequent downpours starting to become more frequent, theres no denying that autumn is well and truly here. And while the change in season can be a nice excuse to cosy up on the sofa, its hard to ignore the winds shaking your poor windows, or think about the kids trampoline in the backyard thats holding on!

RTDCA is seeking qualifications from experienced and licensed occupational therapists and general contractors for various rehab projects throughout the year. The selected contractor/s will be eligible to provide services  throughout Alexandria, VA and/or the District of Columbia for any or all of the following: 
• Roofing
• Plumbing
• Electrical
• HVAC
• General construction
• Safety modifications (ramps, grab bars, etc.)
• Weatherization, including insulation
• Occupational therapy

Deadline to respond: Oct 24, 2025, 5:00pm. Contact cm@rebuildingtogetherdca.org for the RFQ.
